Chapter Programs for Jan through Sept 2012
(contributed by Director Larry Bradley, Program Chairman)
In January, Mr. Robert Kully will share his presentation regarding the results of the extensive research he has done on the causes of the financial collapse in the Fall-of- 2008. Mr. Kully’s presentation will provide you with a clear understanding of what happened and who’s to blame for it. You will find very useful in the coming year.
February’s program we have requested BG Donald Bacon, Commander of the 55th Wing at Offutt AFB as our speaker. We’ve asked BG Bacon to provide us with an update on the missions and capability of the Wing.
We will attend Alter Boyz Saturday, March 24 at the Omaha Community Playhouse. We think this will be an especially fun show to see. As usual, we will arrange a catered meal and a backstage tour.
April’s program will now feature the President and CEO of the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce, Mr. David Brown. We have asked him to describe the Chamber’s missions, how it organizes to accomplish those missions, and what is being done to ensure Offutt AFB is where STRATCOM and the 55th Wing performs their missions.
May’s program will feature U.S. Marshal Mark A. Martinez. Marshal Martinez is the head US Marshal for the state of Nebraska and will tell us about their organization and responsibilities.
Our June 16th program will be about D-Day which occurred on Jun 6, 1944. Our own Dick Doolittle and his wife Loretta made a recent MOAA arranged trip to France and the Normandy Beaches. Dick has agreed to share his pictures of the trip as well as those of others, in order to help us see what the site is like today.
Our July program will the U.S. Calvary’s George Custer. Many of you will remember Jeff Barnes and his book, Forts of the Northern Plains. Jeff has a new book entitled The Great Plains Guide to Custer. Omaha was one of the places Custer visited and Jeff will tell us about George Custer’s 24 Hours in Omaha for our July program. Jeff will be fresh from attending the annual commemoration of the Battle of the Little Big Horn in Montana when he speaks to us.
August 21st we will attend an Omaha Storm Chasers game.
In September I have a tentative commitment from Omaha World Herald columnist Mike Kelly to speak to us.
Your suggestions and recommendations for other meeting activities and speakers are very much encouraged and appreciated. Call or email me, Larry
